the new soft-spoken, hard-rocking group from baltimore debuted their full length live show at the wolf + lamb marcy hotel this march. following in the footsteps of greats like nicolas jaar and pillowtalk, they were the first invited guest in over 2 years to perform at the legendary brooklyn proving grounds. life on planets is a duo that met in the studio lofts of their east coast hometown, whereby a collaboration fusing indie artrock and electronic music began to take shape. it was a pairing of two dramatically different personas, merging as one for a serendipitous, romantic sound that s now been signed to the double standard label. life on planets has also released music through better on foot, where the debut single apollo made waves in early 2014. the touring act features live vocals and guitar, backed by a dj/producer, dawning a long-awaited return to authentic songwriting in dance music.

at some point in 2013, friendly fires, andrew weatherall and timothy j fairplay (aka the asphodells), convened in an east london pub to discuss collaborating on new music together. the plan was to produce music that came from a place outside of their respective usual musical styles - a loose, open-ended process embarked upon for the pure joy of experimentation and collaboration rather than a specific end goal. the collaboration came on the back of two hugely successful friendly fires albums - 2008s debut friendly fires and 2011s follow up pala - and an acclaimed debut album from the asphodells in 2013s ruled by passion destroyed by lust, the latest in a long line of classic releases from andrew weatherall’s own rotters golf club label. the result is *before your eyes* and *velo* - two brand new tracks that take close to ten minutes each to reveal their full hypnotic glory. the tracks will be released as a aa-sided single on translucent, orange colored 12 inch vinyl and will be the inaugural release on friendly fires own telophase label.

oh yes, this a heavyweight bad boy on gamm from french beatmaker/producer izem. after his extensive travels around the globe the sound on the ep is influenced by africa, cuba as well as the middle east.
itt is an electronic take on a classic fela joint, celia (cruz) goes along a similar route but on the latin tip. both are pretty nasty and a near perfect marriage between futuristic productions and raw retro samples. finishing off the ep we get served a slice of arabic boogie using hipnotics hard to find boogie gem *are you lonely* and some fierce middle eastern vocals.

eno louis gained a solid background in traditional edo music as a student at edo college in benin city, south-east nigeria. he lived at felas kalakuta republic till the army raid in 1978, when he moved to the us for a couple of years. on his return, he recorded with edo funk powerhouse the talents of benin, and quickly became a mainstay of the flourishing disco and boogie scene, in-demand as guitarist and drummer, with credits including releases by pogo ltd, amas grill, chris okotie, oby onyioha, chris mba, dizzy k falola, harry mosco, pat finn and the super elcados... to name just a few. the two tracks here are from louis debut lp, living in the usa.
